Pantryful Support

A recipe box that knows what's in your kitchen.

Getting started

Saving a recipe from the web

Open the Recipe Box tab, tap + in the top corner, and choose Import from a link. Paste the address of a recipe page and Pantryful reads the ingredients, steps, timing, and servings from it.

Writing your own

Same + button, then Write it myself. Add ingredients and steps one line at a time. You can reorder or delete lines, and edit the recipe again at any point.

Filling the pantry

Use the Scan tab to read a grocery barcode and have the name, brand, and size filled in for you, or add items by hand from the Pantry tab. Once the pantry has something in it, the Cook tab ranks your recipes by how close you are to being able to make them.

Common questions

A link wouldn't import. What now?

Some sites block automated readers, and a few publish their recipes in a format Pantryful can't read. When that happens the import fails rather than saving something half-finished. You can still add the recipe with Write it myself. If a site you use often doesn't work, tell us which one โ€” that's useful information.

The Scan tab says it can't use the camera.

Pantryful needs camera permission to read barcodes. Open the iOS Settings app, scroll to Pantryful, and turn Camera on. Nothing else in the app needs the camera, and you can add pantry items by hand instead.

A barcode came back as "not found".

Product details come from Open Food Facts, a community database. Its coverage is very good for packaged groceries but not complete, and it varies by country. When a code isn't listed you can add the item by hand โ€” the name and size are all Pantryful needs.

Something is in my pantry but a recipe says I don't have it.

Pantryful matches on the name, so a pantry item called Passata won't be recognised as the tinned tomatoes a recipe asks for. Renaming the pantry item to match the words a recipe would use usually fixes it. Brand names don't interfere with matching.

Why is flour measured by weight when I switch to cups?

Conversions are ingredient-aware. A cup of flour and a cup of water don't weigh the same, so Pantryful converts dry goods by weight rather than treating every ingredient as a liquid. The Original setting always shows the recipe exactly as it was written.

Do I need an account or a subscription?

No. Pantryful has neither. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing to renew.

Where is my data, and how do I back it up?

Everything is stored on your iPhone, in the app's own storage. It is included in your device's iCloud or iTunes backup, so restoring a backup to a new phone brings your recipes with it. Deleting the app deletes its data. See the privacy policy for the full detail.

How do I delete everything?

Delete individual recipes and pantry items inside the app, or remove the app from your iPhone to delete all of it at once. No copy is kept anywhere else.
